LEGO® colours explained: names and colour IDs
Bright Light Orange, Dark Bluish Gray — LEGO colour names are a language of their own. We explain the logic so you never order the wrong colour again.

Why so many greys?
Around 2004 LEGO switched from "old grey" to "bluish gray". Since then Light Gray and Light Bluish Gray coexist — visually almost identical, but not interchangeable in a clean build. So check whether your set is from before or after 2004.
Colour IDs help you search
Each colour has a BrickLink colour ID (e.g. 11 = Black, 5 = Red). We use those same IDs, so a list from BrickLink matches exactly. On our Colours page you can see every available colour with a real swatch.
